The Virginia Cavaliers play host to the Monmouth-NJ Hawks on Friday night. Virginia ranked 18th in the nation at the moment, won their season opener, 73-61, over NC Central on Monday. Monmouth dropped their first game of the season, 79-52, to Seton Hall. The Hawks compete in the Colonial Athletic Association, a conference they finished fourth in last year. Virginia is one of the best teams in the ACC, and they'll look to take care of business tonight versus a mid-major opponent.

Virginia vs. Monmouth Key Stats
Virginia has a pretty deep squad, and on Monday, it was Armaan Franklin who shined. Franklin scored a very efficient 21 points to go with four three-pointers. The former Indiana Hoosier was the second leading scorer for Virginia last year to Jayden Gardner, and while Gardner was quiet in the opener, the senior forward should be one of the Cavaliers' best players once again. Their backcourt of Reece Beekman and Kihei Clark usually provides solid production, and center Kadin Shedrick rounds out the starting lineup. Last year, Virginia allowed the sixth-fewest points in the nation (out of 358 schools), and with a lot of returning faces, expect their defense to be really tough to break down all year.
Monmouth suffered a blowout loss on Wednesday, and they're tabbed as even bigger underdogs tonight. The Hawks' junior forward Myles Foster had a monster game in the loss, totaling 18 points and 15 rebounds. Foster has had a small role through his first two years at Monmouth, but this can be a breakout year for the junior. Outside of Foster, no Monmouth players scored over seven points, so they'll need to find ways to get the ball in the basket tonight. The Hawks don't have any of their top four scorers from last season, so they'll need more than just Foster to step up, especially against a talented team like Virginia.
Virginia vs. Monmouth Betting Prediction
Monmouth failed to cover their final three road games, and they also didn't come that close to covering their season opener. Virginia has way more experience and talent, and they could easily run away with this one in the first half. Back the Cavaliers here to win more comfortably than they did on Monday, enough to cover the spread this time.
Prediction: Virginia -23.5 (-110)
