West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Iowa State Cyclones Key Stats

The Iowa State Cyclones are a much better team than their record, especially the conference record, will show. Four of their five losses this season have been by one score or fewer, and 3 of those losses have been by three points or fewer. The Iowa State defense has been their selling point this season, allowing over 16 points per game. Most notably, the Cyclones held Kansas and Kansas State to under 15 points. They're going to be a nightmare for West Virginia. QB H. Dekkers and the Iowa State offense haven't been the most explosive, scoring just over 21 points per game, but expect more production than usual against the vulnerable Mountaineers defense. The Cyclones average 370 yards per game and less than 100 on the ground. Look for Dekkers and his favorite target, Xavier Hutchinson, to connect often this week.

The Mountaineers looked impressive at times last week against an incredible TCU team. WVU QB J.T. Daniels couldn't keep up with TCU, but still had 275 passing yards and 2 touchdowns. Their passing game has been strong this season, but their ground game has been great. This will be a test for the Mountaineers, RB C.J. Donaldson is out for the season after surgery and the next 2 RBs in line are also bruised up. Against a stellar defense, WVU may be in for a tough day.

West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Iowa State Cyclones Betting Prediction

The Cyclones will hold the Mountaineers well below their average shootout numbers, but WVU will keep a respectable score (enough points to barely clear 50). The Cyclones will make some offensive mistakes that will allow WVU to stay in the game, but Iowa State gets their first conference win this week.

Prediction: Iowa State -7.5 (-104), Over 50.5 (-115)
