40 kids shortlisted for Standard Chartered Bank's Championship Trophy

Standard Chartered Bank in association with English giant Liverpool Football Club has launched `GO FORWARD’, an initiative targeted towards nurturing the football talent of children from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) schools. Sumeet Singla, Regional Head Corporate Affairs India & South Asia and Santosh Kashyap, Air India’s football coach and chief selector for Go Forward today announced the 40 shortlisted children.

In the final phase of the selection process, 96 students assembled at the Karnataka Football grounds where they were divided into teams of eight boys and four girls. These teams then competed in a five-a-side contest for the Go Forward Champions trophy. The Best BMC school trophy for boys was awarded to Colaba Municipal School and the Best BMC trophy for girls went to Worli Naka Hindi Municipal School.

Speaking at the event, Sumeet Singla, Regional Head Corporate Affairs India & South Asia Standard Chartered Bank said,

“The response received for this initiative has been overwhelming. Go Forward will gives these children the unique opportunity to train with the best in class coaches and further nurture this talent.”

These 40 children will now undergo a four month rigorous training programme during which they will be coached by players associated with the I- League and LFC coaches. The initiative will culminate in an exhibition match between the two BMC teams and the best of Mumbai’s public school football teams.
