There have been several forgettable romances throughout WWE's history

WWE couples come and go and, over the years, several superstars have been aligned together as part of a storyline.

While many of these couples became a memorable part of WWE history, there are those that fans may have forgotten.

Several of the following lists of couples could hardly be called actual on-screen couples since their romances were teased and then later dropped.

Let's take a look!

#6. Former WWE Champion CM Punk and Kelly Kelly

CM Punk and Kelly Kelly were both part of WWE ECW back in 2005.

Kelly Kelly was seen as the girlfriend of Mike Knox, but there were several teases that CM Punk had caught her eye instead.

Punk and Kelly went on to date in real life and worked together several times, but the storyline didn't progress after Kelly was dumped by Mike Knox.

Even though Kelly and Punk appeared on the main roster together several years later, this wasn't a story that was revisited.

#5. Former WWE Superstars John Cena and Eve Torres

Eve Torres and Zack Ryder had a strange relationship that began at the end of 2011.

The duo stepped into a storyline with Kane and John Cena a few weeks later. It led to Kane trying to kidnap Eve several times. Ryder was attacked by Kane, and ended up in a wheelchair before he witnessed Eve kissing John Cena on Valentine's Day.

Cena was able to stop Eve from being kidnapped, and this was her reaction to being saved. She later confessed she never cared about Ryder. Despite the couple making up, Eve left her mark at WrestleMania 28 when she turned on Ryder and delivered a low blow after costing his team the match.

#4. Current WWE Superstar Jeff Hardy and Trish Stratus

Trish Stratus and Jeff Hardy are two of WWE's best-known talents but, back in 2003, the duo was aligned together.

Both Stratus and Hardy were fresh in the wrestling business at the time. After Hardy was able to save Trish from an attack at the hands of Steven Richards and Victoria, a romance began to blossom.

The duo was seen flirting backstage, with Trish kissing Hardy before his match against The Rock, which turned out to be his final match in WWE before his release.

If Hardy wasn't released from the company at the time, this could have become something much bigger for the star, but instead, it became one of Stratus' more forgettable romances. By the time Herdy made his return a few years later, Stratus was the biggest star in the Women's Division and was already planning her retirement.

Throughout her career, the former Women's Champion was linked to several WWE stars, including The Rock and Chris Jericho.

#3. Former WWE Champion John Cena and Maria Kanellis

John Cena and Maria Kanellis' alliance on WWE was a fleeting one.

Back in 2006, Cena was feuding with Edge and, after The Rated R Superstar and Lita tried to pick a fight with Maria, the WWE Champion came to her rescue. This led to a mixed tag match where Lita and Edge wrestled the unlikely duo.

Before the match, Maria claimed that she couldn't fight Lita, and Cena gave her a little bit of persuasion before the duo headed out into the arena.

Interestingly, despite lacking in-ring experience at the time, Maria was able to pin Lita after Edge inadvertently delivered a spear to his girlfriend.

After Maria was able to help Cena win the match, the couple's alliance came to an end. Cena has been aligned with many female wrestlers throughout his WWE career, including Nikki Bella, Eve Torres, and AJ Lee.

#2. Former WWE Superstar Enzo Amore and Nia Jax

Nia Jax was recently part of a romance angle with Reggie on RAW, but it was her alliance with Enzo Amore that got the WWE Universe talking.

Before Enzo Amore was released from WWE back in 2018, there were breadcrumbs dropped that the former Cruiserweight Champion could set to be part of an angle with Nia Jax.

The two stars were seen backstage several times and even attempted to kiss under the mistletoe at Christmas. There was also a moment when Jax was injured in her match on RAW, and Amore came looking to ensure she was alright.

This was another storyline that was forced to be dropped when Amore was released from the company.

Enzo later claimed that the plan for the storyline was for Nia Jax to catch him with Alexa Bliss and push him to be a full-fledged heel.

#1. Former WWE Superstar Layla and William Regal

When Layla was first promoted to WWE's main roster back in 2008, the former Women's Champion stepped into a storyline with Jamie Noble.

Whilst Noble was trying to win her over with his in-ring ability, Layla had her head turned by his opponent William Regal and later explained that he was what she wanted in a man.

This later led to Layla managing Regal for several months, which also included her appearing at ringside for his matches and in backstage segments. The coupling lacked chemistry, to begin with but the fact that both stars were English seemed to be enough to make it work and fans were seemingly invested in the couple throughout their time together.

Rather than push this alliance forward, the couple was split by the WWE Draft the following year when Layla was sent to SmackDown. Given that Layla was another star who was part of several romances during her time in WWE, her union with Regal has become another forgettable part of her career.
