A SWOT analysis for Liverpool

Kenny Dalglish will certainly be pleased with the Reds after he saw his Liverpool side triumph over Newcastle United at Anfield. So, does Liverpool FC have it all covered?

What Kenny Dalglish needs to address

This transfer window will be a big one for Kenny Dalglish. It will be the transfer window that will define the Reds’ fortunes for the second half of the season. A single buy could change Liverpool’s fortunes for the rest of the season (remember Suarez?). What Kenny Dalglish needs is finishers, players who can get themselves into good positions in the pitch, and then complete the moves.

Liverpool sorely lack a backup striker, with no good replacement for Suarez and Carroll, if they were to get injured. Names such as Lukas Podolski and even Fernando Torres have been mentioned, and I think they would both be competent to fill the void in Suarez’s eight-game absence when his suspension actually kicks in.

Another position that is weak at the moment is the rightback role. If Andy Carroll is to EVER succeed with Liverpool FC come a few months, it has to be with the help of a rightwinger who can send in good crosses for him. Downing really HAS to play on the left should the lanky Englishman be playing alongside him, because he cuts in way too often when he’s playing on the right side of the midfield.

Two players I would recommend: Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Gaston Ramirez

What Kenny Dalglish doesn’t have to address

Liverpool don’t need to tinker with their defence or their goalkeeping. In defensive midfield, Jay Spearing is more than capable of playing the position well, given his performances in recent games — the Liverpool academy graduate is mature and passionate, and an asset.

The central midfield is another position they needn’t worry about. Henderson, Gerrard and Adam are good choices, and Dalglish doesn’t have to address anything in that department.
