Wayne Rooney Scores A wonder goal to settle the derby.

Wayne Rooney scored a decisive goal to send Manchester United seven points clear at the top of Barclays Premier League. United prevailed over City 2-1 in the city derby.

Nani gave the hosts the lead in the 41st minute when he slotted past Joe Hart after being put through on goal by Giggs. United deservingly got the lead in the first half after an impressive period of midfield domination. Nani’s goal meant United finished the first half solidly with a one goal lead.

City began the second half with more intent and Mancini replaced Milner with Dzeko. The new signing from Wolfsburg immediately made an impact when his shot from fellow substitute Shaun Wright-Phillips’s low cross deflected off Silva’s back and past keeper Edwin van der Sar. United pressed forward after the fortunate goal and Berbatov came on for Anderson.

The decisive moment of the game came when Rooney conjured a magical scissor kick that flew past Joe Hart and gave United the deserving lead. The wonder goal would surely be counted among the goals of the season.

The result sees the Manchester clubs sandwich second-placed Arsenal and though City are eight points behind their cross-city rivals having played a game more, they remain primed for an assault on Champions League qualification.

David Silva produced the first chance of the game when he poked the goal just wide of the far post. With no clear cut chances in the first half , the strikers from both the team cut a forlorn figure. Silva was the architect of City’s midfield play and his flair caused more trouble to United as he continuously tried to cross the ball to Tevez. United’s back four had a superb match with Vidic and Smalling marshalling the defense. A long Van Der Sar kick was knocked onto Giggs after Rooney challenged in the air and his excellent first time pass to Nani resulted in the opening goal.

The match looked poised when City equalised through an oblivious Silva goal but Rooney’s heroics turned the tables in United’s favour and clearly now its United’s title to lose.
