Asian Games 2014: All the Indian gold medallists

India began their Asian Games campaign on a bright note as they clinched gold on the first day of competition thanks to Jitu Rai. It did not go as expected in several events and disappointment ensued for Indian fans as they witnessed medal hopefuls depart one after another in Incheon. However, India managed to 11 gold medals, three short from their effort in Guangzhou four years ago.

#1 Jitu Rai - 50 m pistol

Jitu Rai opened India’s gold medal tally on Day 1 in Incheon as he clinched the top spot in the 50 m pistol event.

Rai shot steadily throughout the final and was just 0.7 points behind leader Nguyen of Vietnam. Nguyen shot 5.8 and Jitu was calm and shot 8.4 to clinch India’s first gold medal at this year’s Asian Games. The silver medal went to Nguyen and China's Wei Pang took home the bronze. Rai finished with a score of 186.2 points ahead of Nguyen’s 183.4.

#2 Sandeep Kumar, Rajat Chauhan, Abhishek Verma - Men\'s compound team archery

The second gold came via the talented Men’s compound archery team as they beat Korea 227-225 in a thrilling final.

The Indian trio of Abhishek Verma, Sandeep Kumar and Rajat Chauhan, managed a total of 12 10's in 24 shots while the South Korean team of Yonghee Choi, Lihong Min and Youngho Yang got a total of 13 10's.

Chauhan and Verma hit a total of 10 10’s in their combined 16 shots.

#3 Saurav Ghosal, Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu, Mahesh Mangaonkar, Kumar Kush - Men\'s team squash

The men’s squash team won an historic gold after getting the better of Malaysia in the final.

Harinder Pal Singh got off to a perfect start as he beat Iskandar Mohamed 11-8, 11-6, 8-11 ,11-4.

It was up to Saurav Ghosal to seal the deal for India in the second match against Ong Beng Hee. The Indian lost the first game 6-11, but came back stronger winning the next three games 11-7, 11-6, 14-12.

#4 Yogeshwar Dutt - Men\'s freestyle 65 kg wrestling

Star Indian wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt lived up to his billing as he won his first gold at the Asian Games triumphing over Tajikistan’s Zalimkhan Yusupov. Kartar Singh was the last Indian wrestler to win a gold at the Seoul Asian Games in 1986.

Dutt tried to pin his opponent time and again, but failed to do so. Yogeshwar won his first point at the end of the opening period.

In the second period, he managed to earn two more points to get a 3-0 verdict in his favour.

He bettered his 2006 Doha games’ bronze medal winning effort in Incheon.

#5 Seema Punia - Women\'s discus throw

Seema Punia bettered her Glasgow Commonwealth Games performance where she had won silver to clinch gold in Incheon. Her best throw came in the fourth attempt – a throw of 61.03m.

Her compatriot Krishna Poonia finished in fourth position.

#6 Sania Mirza and Saketh Myneni - Mixed doubles tennis

Despite the withdrawal of top Indian players Somdev Devvarman, Rohan Bopanna and Leander Paes, Indian tennis fans had plenty to cheer as they clinched the top honours in the mixed doubles event.

Saketh Myneni and Sania Mirza beat the Chinese Taipei pair of Hsien Yin and Chan Hao Ching 6-4,6-3 in the final.

Myneni had won the silver medal in men’s doubles with Sanam Singh.

#7 Mary Kom Flyweight (48-51Kg) category

Mary Kom won her first gold medal in the Asian Games as she beat Shekerbekova Zhaina of Kazakhstan in a closely contested final.

It was even after the end of first rounds as the judges split their votes on the two pugilists.

However, the Indian stormed back in the next two rounds to win it quite comfortably.

#8 Indian Hockey Team

The Indian hockey team won gold after 16 years. Pakistan took the early lead thanks to a Muhammed Rizwan Sr. Goal. India did not stop attacking throughout the game and equalised by a Kothajit Singh goal in the 28th minute.

The teams were tied at the end of four quarters and the match went to a penalty shootout.

Sreejesh was brilliant in the shootout and India won it 4-2 to win another Asian games gold.

#9 Womens 4 X 400m relay

India successfully defended their women's 4X400 metres relay title by clinching the gold medal at the Asian Games. Priyanka Panwar, Tintu Luka, Mandeep Kaur and M. Poovamma set a Games record with a timing of three minutes and 28.68 seconds at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium.

#10 Indian womens Kabaddi team

Indian women's team beat Iran 31-21 for its second successive kabaddi gold medal at the Asian Games.

India lead 15-11 at the end of first half. The Indian defenders stole the show and registered 14 outs and two more 'lona' points as Iran failed to make an improvement to their first half effort and had to settle for the silver.

#11 Indian mens Kabaddi team

India beat Iran 27-25 in a thriller at the Songdo Global University Gymnasium.

India trailed Iran by 8 points after the first half, but a superb show in the second half saw them take it 14-4 to win their seventh consecutive Asian Games gold!
