Bacary Sagna Suffers Broken Leg

Arsenal have been dealt yet another blow on the injury front with news filtering in on Monday morning from London indicating that Bacary Sagna has broken his leg in Sunday’s clash with North London rivals Tottenham and faces upto three months on the sidelines.

Sagna landed awkwardly after colliding with Benoit Assou-Ekotto while challenging for a header and immediately signalled towards the bench that he needed to be substituted. He was then stretched off and replaced by Carl Jenkinson.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had spoken after the game and had admitted he feared the worst for Sagna. He said,

“We are very worried about his injury. He is in hospital at the moment but the first signs don’t look good at all. It is fibula and ankle that has to be checked, we will know tonight.

“I think he was pushed quite hard but I don’t know what happened when he landed but straight away he wanted to be substituted.”

The latest update coming out of Arsenal is that the French full back will undergo surgery on Monday to set his broken bone in place.

This means that Sagna will not be available for France’s Euro 2012 qualifiers against Albania and Bosnia-Herzegovina and the FFF confirmed the news.

An FFF statement read,

“The doctor of the France team, Fabrice Bryand, was informed by his Arsenal colleague of a fracture to the right fibula of Bacary Sagna. Laurent Blanc has therefore called up Lille’s Mathieu Debuchy.”

Arsenal already have a lengthy injury list that includes Jack Wilshere, Thomas Vermaelen, Johan Djourou and Abou Diaby and now Sagna has joined them on the treatement table. Carl Jenkinson, who has had a shaky start to his Arsenal career, looks set to fill in for Sagna.
