Bayern Munich confirm two new signings

Unsurprisingly, Bayern now officially confirmed that Xherdan Shaqiri will join the club in summer, signing a 4-year contract. Basel receives an initial fee of €9m with potential bonus payments in case of success.

“Xherdan’s intelligent play and dribbling skill will add to our team’s strength next season. I’ve been observing him for a while now, and I’m convinced he can become a very important player for FC Bayern.” – Jupp Heynckes

A less spectacular but nevertheless respectable signing is the one of Pierre Emil Højbjerg. The 16-year-old Danish central midfielder currently plays for Brøndby’s youth team and will join Bayern’s U19 for the next three years at the end of this season.

Højbjerg, despite being one year younger than all others, was a part of Denmark’s squad for the 2011 U17 World Cup in Mexico. He played 20 minutes in the final group match against Australia.

“Clubs from Italy, England, Germany and Netherlands wanted to sign me but when I visited Bayern I knew that it’s the right club. Playing for such a big club is a childhood dream come true. I’ve watched the great stars play on TV, in a few years I might be the one being watched on TV.” – Pierre Emil Højbjerg

The Danish talent was voted as the country’s top U17 talent and is, as mentioned before, a central midfielder with lovely passing skills. If Xherdan Shaqiri is the ‘next Arjen Robben’, then Pierre Emil Højbjerg might be the ‘next Bastian Schweinsteiger’ (who, by the way, will be sidelined for quite some time due to a torn ligament). Good luck to both.
