In a college, what I have observed as a student is that Basketball draws more crowd than any other game played. It is the most watched of any game events held. The game is similar to guitar when it comes to the games played in college. It has an aura of ‘cool’ around it.
I watched basketball games more for the ‘audiences’ it attracted than for the game itself. One evening an interesting match was on, much interesting because my ‘crush’ was the captain of the team. Match was on heat. It was a ‘death’ match. I wanted God to answer to my silent prayers. I wanted the team to win. She got the ball… she ran towards the basket, surpassing all the defenders and dunked the ball. The ball through the net smashed me in the face for I was sitting just outside the court line. It should have been a moment of agony, but for some reason I felt swell. She came to collect the ball and I tried to smile. She just grabbed the ball and was back on the court. A Bazinga moment for me…
WTF, I thought…? I was invisible.
That moment brought in a revelation. I instantaneously became a sportsman. Then on I practiced basketball every day. I wanted to show everyone that even I can dunk a ‘DUNK’. Day and night I dedicated my seemingly trivial life to basketball. Sometimes I even skipped meals. That was a period when I had forgotten that I was a student. I had only one goal…to equal her, to draw her attention, to tell her…that I, uh…
I am no longer a student now. I still play the ball. I still excel in the game. But I have not been able to gain her attention. Not because I suck at the game, but because I don’t play according to her rules. I have my own place. I am the master of that arena. No one can beat me there. All those years of dedicated practice…at one place only…My Computer. Yes, for all these years I have been playing EA sports NBA on my computer updated each year with new versions of the game.
You say “WTF…?”
Bazinga moment for you I guess.
: D
P.S. For those of you who do not know what Bazinga is…a word used by a character named Sheldon in the sitcom ‘Big Bang Theory’
