Can Antoine Griezmann give Arsenal much needed width?

With Arsenal flying high at the summit of the Premier League and playing some of the best football around, it’s hard to see where the Gunners could improve. However, although Arsene Wenger may have an abundance of riches in midfield, do Arsenal lack a genuine winger?

With England duo Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out injured and the former expressing his desire to play through the middle, Wenger has opted to use a mixture of Mesut Ozil, Tomas Rosicky and Serge Gnabry as his widest midfield options this season.

The number of genuine out and out wingers left in the game looks to be diminishing but one player who could fit the bill for Arsenal is Antoine Griezmann.

The French winger has made a name for himself in Spain after moving over the border as a teenager. Griezmann made his La Real debut in 2009 in the Copa del Rey and has gone onto become a key member of the Basque’s club recent success.

The 22-year-old played an integral part of Sociedad finishing fourth in La Liga last season and ultimately qualifying for this seasons Champions League. Despite the Spanish side failing to win a game in their opening three Champions League group games, Griezmann has still impressed with a number of eye-catching performances.

Griezmann has started the domestic season in fine form, scoring four goals in eight appearances and the youngster clearly has an eye for goal after notching 10 goals in 34 league appearances last season. The winger has had 19 shots on goals so far in this campaign, giving him a shot accuracy of 58%.

The Frenchman has also shown he is capable of scoring with both his feet and his head this season, scoring two goals with each.

Griezmann has created five chances for his team-mates in the league this season while last season he created 37 chances but registered just three assists. The French youth international has also created two chances in three Champions League games.

Real Sociedad’s appearance in the Champions League this season has showcased their prized asset to a wider audience, and if Griezmann continues to impress at the Anoeta, Europe’s elite will soon be chasing this classy Frenchman.
