Carlos Tevez : Another case of player power?

We’ve written in a past article on ChelseaChiefs.com how player power is a terrible thing in the game and it needs to be eradicated. Whilst players shouldn’t be treated like pieces of meat, the state of the game today shows us there is a sickening amount of player power in the game, as many players, often well paid super stars of the game, dictate to clubs when they want to leave and even when they want to play. Yes, play.

In last night’s Champions League game, Carlos Tevez was named amongst the substitutes for the match against Bayern Munich. With the Manchester club down 2-0 to a double by Mario Gomez, Mancini sent the word to Tevez that he wanted the Argentinian to join the match with 30 minutes remaining. Tevez refused.

A perplexed Mancini pronounced,

“He just refused to go on. I don’t know why. I cannot be happy with this situation. Would something like this happen at Bayern Munich, AC Milan or Manchester United? I am the manager. I decide everything.”

Why did Carlos do this now? Who knows. In an interview after the match, Tevez spoke through his translator, “I have been professional during all my time here.” Really Carlos? “Last season I was the top scorer and I wanted to leave for family reasons – but I keep trying to do my best.” Well forgive me for stating the obvious but didn’t City try and Tevez to Corinthians for what would have been a Brazilian transfer-record fee? Did they not state that they would let you go to back to South America to be closer to your family? Did they not make you the poster boy for the club when you joined? I say all this, and I very much dislike City.

Where’s Tevez?

Mancini, it’s up to you

Roberto Mancini, we global fans of football implore you to send a message to all the would-be Carlos Tevez’s in the world. Player power like this, must simply end. If you and I dear reader was to turn up to work, get paid, then refuse to work, we would get fired. I’m not even going to bother stating how much money Tevez earns over the average global employee. City should fine the player a month’s wages and send months’ pay packet to charity. Following on from that, he should not be allowed to play until January, where he is farmed out to some club who state “Tevez joined us for family reasons”. If he joined my club, I’d rather those reasons be about football.
