Step aside holders Italy. That goes to you too, Spain. And England and Argentina and all the other contenders and pretenders. According to the Castrol Calculations, the Samba Boys will have their hands on the trophy at the end of the Rainbow bonanza.
According to this chart, the defending champions, Italy, are seventh most likely to hold on to their crown. Which means they should be knocked out in the quarter-finals. Crowd favorites Spain make it to second place.
Here’s another chart that’ll make the analysis simpler.
Of course, this all but one analysis. Several other predictions have been made already, right from the highly acclaimed FIFA game series, to noted astrologers and psychics. I remember in 2006, Spanish supporters quoted Nostradamus and one of his predictions, which said that the ‘Red Army’ would reign supreme.
However, the Castrol Predictor is no astrology. It is based on science, and the probability of a team winning is based on it’s recent form, it’s individual players, the history involved in the matches, and of course, the tactics employed by the respective managers.
The chart also points out, that in the finals, Brazil shall defeat Spain, with a score of 1.38 to 1(approximately 4-3) . And that England shall win 3rd place with a score of 1.17 to 1(approximately 12- 10).
What the ratings do not consider, however, is the luck component. I think this should mark for at least a 5% change in the fortunes of a team to settle the course of their match. What would have happened had Zidane kept his cool and not been sent off? Had Italy not ?been awarded the controversial penalty that sent them through at the expense of Australia? Had Ronaldo (the Brazilian) not had a bout of sickness the night before the ’98 finals versus France?
What about the crowd support? It is indeed different when you organize an attack up the field with thousands of supporters helping you along with what John Terry refers to as ‘a wall of sound’. Doesn’t it become eleven men against thousands? We have seen the effect a crowd can have on any game over and over.
Moreover, i do not agree to all the teams that shall make it to the knockouts. of course, i do not have a team full of experts working under me, analyzing each and every pass, the percentage of possession and shots on target of any player and team. But I shall differ from this map because i also believe Mexico should be involved. In my next post, I will explain why. Keep following the articles! No doubt, however, that till then, this map shall serve handy to place your bets.
