Glasgow, Aug 4 (IANS) India's two senior sports officials, who were arrested on Saturday, were released on Monday after charges against them were dropped due to lack of evidence.
Indian Olympic Association (IOA) secretary general Rajeev Mehta was arrested for driving without a valid licence and under the influence while senior international referee Virender Malik was arrested on charges of sexual assault. The charges were dropped after senior Indian officials intervened and the matter didn't come up for hearing at the Sheriff's court.
They were not part of the Indian contingent for the Commonwealth Games but were in Glasgow in their official capacity.
Mehta was an invitee of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) and was seen giving away medals, while Malik officiated in the wrestling competition in the Games.
