Chelsea are reportedly set to keep Frank Lampard on board and are readying themselves to offer the veteran a new one-year deal to stay at Stamford Bridge, according to the Express.
Chelsea agreed a new one-year deal last week with John Terry, however, Ashley Cole will not be staying at the club after the hierarchy opted against giving the former England international a new contract. Cole announced this week he will be leaving Chelsea.
Frank Lampard however, is set to be presented with a new deal when he returns from England’s training camp in Portugal at the weekend. The former West Ham midfielder has been a bit-part player this season, but Mourinho has opted for Lampard in the big games in Europe.
A source close to Lampard said last night: “Frank is feeling very positive about the whole thing. He fully expects his Chelsea future to be resolved at some point next week before he flies off to Brazil.
“He is not looking at any other option other than spending next season at Stamford Bridge.”
Negotiations seemed to have stalled after Chelsea tried to reduce Lampard’s £150,000 a week contract, however, it seems that both parties have finally come to an agreement.
Frank Lampard created 33 chances in the Premier League, the fourth-highest in the Chelsea squad.
