Majority of us play cricket or just love to watch cricket, but do we all known the actual meaning of all cricketing shots, do we all play those shots correctly. Let’s check out some important cricketing shots and how they are played:-
Off Drive:-
Off drive is played on a ball which is pitched around the off stump, while playing these shot bat should come down in straight line in the direction of mid-off, the face of the bat should also be kept down as there is risk of ball going in the air directly in the hands of fielder.
Cover Drive:-
Cover drive is played on a ball which is pitched slightly outside the off stump, while attempting these shot face of the bat should be closed and it should be played in the direction of extra cover with full face of the bat.
Square Drive:-
For playing square drive ball should be pitched wider outside the off-stump, these shot is played in the direction square of the wicket. Square drive should be played with full face of the bat but the shot should be controlled as hitting the ball in the air may directly land in hands of the fielder.
Straight Drive:-
To play a straight drive batsman should reach the pitch of the ball and play it straight passing the hands of the bowlers, these shot is usually played on the good length balls and is also the best eye catching shot, if u are preparing for some cricketing selection then surely u should try these shot.
On Drive:-
On drive is played on the ball which is pitched in the line of the wickets, these is one of the most difficult shot played in modern day cricket. On drive is played between mid-on and mid-wicket.
Leg Glance:-
Leg glance is played on both front foot and back foot, front foot leg glance is used to play the ball in direction of mid-wicket and back foot leg glance is used to play the ball behind the behind square. Leg glances should be played very fine as these shots gives an opportunity to take quick runs between the wickets.
Sweep Shot:-
Sweep shot is played to a delivery on or around the leg stump, in the direction behind square on the leg side. Sweep shot is played on the bowling of spinners and it should be played with the spin as playing sweep shot against the spin may take a leading edge and go into fielders grasp. This is one of the difficult cricketing shot.
Reverse Sweep:-
Reverse Sweep is a cross-batted sweep shot played in the opposite direction to the normal sweep, while playing a reverse sweep batsman may swap his hand on the handle of the bats so that the shot can be played with ease, reverse sweep is played on the bowling of spinner these shot should be played with the spin so as to make the maximum use of the shot.
Slog:-
Slog shot is played on deliveries which cannot be pulled. Slog shot is usually played in air trying to cross the boundary. While playing a slog batsman should try to hit the ball with full swing of the bat and use maximum power so as the ball goes over the rope.
Slog Sweep:-
Slog sweep is played on the full pitched delivery bowled by slow bowlers, slog sweep is played over square-leg using full swing of the bat for playing slog sweep the batsman should place his front leg wider outside leg stump so that he can have full swing of the bat.
Upper Cut:-
Upper Cut is played on the delivery which is short pitched and slightly outside the off stump while playing these shot batsman connects the upper part of the bat to the ball to make it go over the keeper and the slips to the boundary while playing these shot batsman should read the ball carefully and connect the bat with ball as ball may take edge of the bat and land in wicketkeepers gloves.
Switch Hit:-
A switch hit is the shot in which the batsman changes his handedness and turn opposite side to hit the ball these shot is played on the deliveries bowled by the spinners, before playing these shot the batsman should be well trained to bat with other handedness as these shot is very risky.
Scoop:-
Scoop short is played on the short pitched deliveries, to play the scoop shot the batsman should be on the front foot and should try to come beneath the bounce of the ball and try to hit it directly over the keeper’s head for a boundary. While playing these shot the batsman should carefully read the ball as there are chances of batsman getting hurt by the ball or getting caught behind the stumps.
Helicopter Shot:-
Helicopter Shot is generally played on York deliveries, while playing this shot batsman uses his full strength and makes full swing of the bat to connect the ball. Before playing helicopter shot batsman should be well trained as there are chances of getting bowled on York deliveries or batsman injuring his shoulder while trying to swing the bats.
