Narendra Modi had promised of ‘Acche Din’ in his first tweet after winning the Lok Sabha elections for the BJP-led NDA, and it looks like days ahead could be bright and happy for the Indian contingent who are busy plying their trade at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

The minister for Youth affairs and sports, Sarbananda Sonowal, in an interview to the Press Trust of India has assured that Indian athletes, competing at the Glasgow Games, will soon be paid their full daily allowance. The reaction by the Sports minister has come in the wake of the Indian contingent claiming that they were yet to be paid the daily allowance which was increased from $25 to $50last week . While squash players have not been paid at all, the table tennis squad has got half of their entitlement.

“As clarified by Ajit Sharan, the Secretary at the ministry for youth affair and sports, the issue will be sorted out soon. The allowance indeed has been doubled. The ministry has done what it needed to,” Sonowal said.

“The Indian Olympic Association is handling the affairs in Glasgow. Part of funds could not be transferred as IOA doesn’t have an account there. We have already asked the IOA to do the needful at the earliest. Our athletes have been performing well at the Games and they must get the best of the facilities,” added the minister.
