Dilip Tirkey, former Indian hockey captain and now a member of Rajya Sabha, was originally supposed to join Athlos 2014 as the chief guest. But his plans had to be cancelled because of some urgent and important engagement. He was kind enough to send his message for the sixth edition of Athlos, the annual sports league of XIMB. Here's the message he shared with us:
"It is matter of great regret for me that I will not be able to join you at Athlos 2014 as I am committed to some other important engagement. Thank you for your invitation and I was very eager to be part of the inter B School sports festival of XIMB.
“You have requested to share few words about my journey in professional hockey and Athlos 2014. My journey from a remote area of Sundargarh to gain the national limelight as the skipper of the Indian Hockey team was a challenging one, which is not easy to describe in limited words and time. Candidly speaking, it was beyond my imagination during the initial part of my playing days as a Hockey player. But I pursued the game with commitment, dedication & sincerity irrespective of the result. I strongly feel, all my coaches have made major contributions in my success as a Hockey player.
“I take this opportunity to thank all my coaches for their valuable guidance to transform a tribal boy of remote Sundargarh area to a successful captain of Indian mens Hockey team. But this is not the formula only to be a successful Hockey player. To be successful in any profession, commitment, dedication and sincerity are the most important tools. I assure all of you that, if you are honest to your profession, nobody will be able to hinder you from succeeding in your field of Interest. I take this opportunity to thank you all & wish all XIMBIANS have a great time during “Athlos 2014”."
