Drogba: Would you offer him a new deal?

Didier Drogba, without question, has been outstanding over the last couple of months and last Saturday, scored his fourth goal in as many FA CUP finals, which is a new record in the competition.

Speaking after the game, John Terry spoke of the big man and pleaded with the club to sort out a new deal for Drogba.

JT said:

“It will be such a shame if Didier leaves because he has been incredible for this club. Didi loves Chelsea and I really hope he will be back next season. We’ve got a massive Champions League game in a couple of weeks and after that hopefully something can be thrashed out and he stays.”

I wonder what the club will do as far as Drogba is concerned. The club have made it clear in the past that when players reach a certain age, they are replaced and with the modern game being as it has become now, especially in England, you can understand their approach.

However, if you look at how Drogba has been playing, it’s almost like he is the same player he was when he first came to the club. He is still quick, strong and powerful and able to boss defenders in games.

The problem against it though is the fact that age will kick in at some stage, and as a player who has had the success at Chelsea he has, you wouldn’t want to your career to just fizzle out, would you?.

I personally think that the result in Munich will have a major influence on the decision that Didier Drogba and Chelsea make when the season has ended.

What would you, the Chelsea fan, reading this do now if you were in charge of player contracts? Robbie Di Matteo has spoken of Drogba being the ultimate professional. The likes of JT and Frank Lampard have openly praised him and have asked for him to stay, but at the same time, you have the approach from the club in relation to the age of the player.

What would you do? Would you offer Drogba a new deal?
