Dempo were crowned the champions of the i-league 2009-10 season and got all the praise for the hard-work. But it is being now learned that the champions from Goa are yet to receive their winning amount from the All India Football Federation.
Dempo are not the only one who are yet to get their prize money, neither the runners up Churchill Brothers nor the third placed Pune FC were handed a single penny till now. It is pure injustice to the clubs and the players who have worked so tirelessly for winning the national league only to remain empty handed. This is not injustice to the players, this is injustice to the beautiful game.
When you look at the other side where the National Team is preparing for the AFC Asia Cup 2011, Qatar, the picture is completely contrasting. The National team are being sent to Portugal and Dubai where the expenses are sky high. Also, the AIFF has launched futuristic projects like the AIFF XI’s inclusion in the i-League. There is a complete unbalance between the two sides.
With so many business tycoons coming forward for Indian Football and trying to purchase a share or two, these kind of activities from the governing bodies of Indian Football will never help. If the businessmen in India does not get any returns from their investment, why will they ever want to invest here. We all know Lakshmi Mittal’s connection with QPR and Venky’s (possible) connection with Blackburn Rovers. Thanks to people like Shilpa Shetty and John Abraham we are still in a position of improvement. It’s mandatory that we don’t waste such opportunities.
With the AIFF still to confirm there broadcast partners this season for the National Football League i.e. the i-League, one might question whether they are in a position of organizing the league or not.
