FIFA WC 2010, Pre QF : Germany romps home 4-1 as English cry foul

Aww. Now this is what I really hate. What should have been a clear thumping/battering/ plummeting of England by Germany in Pre QF at FIFA WC 2010 will now forever will be remembered for the disallowed goal just before half time. To be fair the goal would have been an equalizer and to be fairer in the end it would not have mattered anyway. Last time the German team lost to an English Side at a major tournament was in 1966. Tonight wasn’t the night where the trend would change. England was way behind the ever clinical German team controversy or no controversy.

But equally obvious is the fact that the English will cry themselves hoarse for the Bad Luck ( read Bad Officiating of the

Was it match changing attempt?

game.). No matter what happens in the tournament from now on in Queen’s land the time will remain stuck when the goal was disallowed. It is their 4 yearly “Where were you?” moment when Lampard’s shot bounced of the bar and clearly landed at least a yard behind the line. How in the hell did the match officils missed it is beyond anyone’s understanding. It would have been an equalizer and a moral booster for England . There is no denying the fact. One has to feel for the English side. But how do you describe 4-1 score line? Goals by Klose and Podolski in first half were a manifestation of the mesmerizing high paced play by Germany that exposed the shortcomings of the English defense. An Upson header brought England back in the game and Lampard’s shot would have meant the teams went in at half time with scores leveled. Though there was no doubt who was the better team. That they did not concede more was their luck.

Germans celebrate yet another goal

England should have come back charged at the injustice to prove a point and they looked to be on course for a few minutes in second half. But two goals in 3 minutes by Thomas Muller , The danger Man as defined By Rooney before the match sealed the fate of the match. England pressed hard in dying minutes of the game but German Defense was up for it. In the end the margin could have been different but the result would have been the same. A 4-1 routing by Germany propels them to yet another QF while the English team will return home pre maturely licking their wounds.

Only like every other time. They have found the scape goat. Their Coach Capello said after the match “It was, I think, one of the most important things in the game. We [could have played] a different style because we scored the second goal [and would not have to] go forward.” Oh really . Not going forward at 2-2? No wonder this man only wants to take credit for the win else why would he say he does not recognize the team after the first two draw matches.. I wish his strange strategies come under scanner now.

England has struggled throughout the tournament. Their only win cane against Slovenia in a hard fought contest. Their superstars most notably Rooney has simply not lived up to expectations. If ever there was a time for introspection for a team and an over zealous nation, this is it. But thanks to assistant Mauricio Espinosa faux pas, the entire kingdom will talk about the injustice and their bad luck for months to come. Or perhaps some body will wake up , look at the score line and say 4-1 , what the heck we deserved to be out . As much as the young German team were deserving winners. Argentina Watch out. Joachim Low may have another ace in his sleeve to outwit Maradona.
