Lewis Hamilton has been given the honor to carry the Olympic torch on Monday next week. Where he will be running is still unknown. It was first hoped that he would be running through Stevenage, which is the place where he grew up. But as the torch will be there on Sunday, Hamilton could not do it as he will be racing in the British Grand Prix.
Hamilton: “I am so honored to have been asked to do it. I never in a million years would have thought I would get to do something so cool. I have no idea where I will be running but it is great to be the one.”
The torch relay has started on 19 May and will run until 27 July. It will be carried over a distance of about 8 000 miles, having started from Land’s End in Cornwall. The opening ceremony of the London Summer Olympics will be held on 27 July and the closing ceremony on 12 August.
