There have been numerous legends in the sports fraternity, and most of them share quite a few things in common. Excellent performances in their respective fields have not only helped them contribute towards their fame, but have also helped establish themselves as dignified public figures. However, keeping quality performances aside, there is one feature that stands out among the greats -’humility’.

Humbleness is an attribute commonly found in most of the legends today. Being down-to-earth has resulted in them being so successful. When we say legends, we do accept that they are considered to be the best of the best, and need no introduction. Here is a compilation of the ‘greats’:

Messi has never personally declared himself as being “as good as”,”the next”, or “the best”. Leo feels amazed to be compared with the past legends of the game, and this humbleness is one major factor which allows him to reach the pinnacle of his success.

Roger Federer

The Swiss tennis sensation is known for his unbelievable magic on the tennis court, and is responsible for the lurking fear that his competitors somehow behold when facing him. However, humility comes naturally to him. Federer hardly gets into a controversy and is welcomed with open arms all around the world. He has a huge fan following even today, when his dominance has declined to a huge extent. Even the likes of Sachin Tendulkar were floored by Federer’s charming self.

Michael Jordan

The king of basketball is one of those rare players in this sport known both for his skills and his humbleness. This man achieved success after a lot of failures, but never chose a wrong path or a short cut. He successfully managed to steer clear of any scandals. Genuine goodness and hard work are the driving forces behind this ‘epitome of success’.

Legends like these are hard to find. They are like a diamond in the rough, having only one color – only one mind – only one soul. Such legends have been ambassadors for their respective sports. They are those who can be called real assets, both as human beings and as sportsmen.

Success and glory are bound to accompany you, even if you initially have to trudge on the tough path leading to your ultimate destination. What one needs to focus on is hard work and the attribute of humility, even when one reaches his or her peak.
