Sangram is an annual event, the biggest B-school sports meet in South India, where a healthy sporting rivalry between IIM Kozhikode, IIM Bangalore and IIM Trichy is relived every year. Started in 2004 as an annual event between IIMK and IIMB, from 2012 onwards Sangram has seen participation from IIM T as well.
Being hosted by IIMK and IIMB every alternate year, this event gives a platform to all the sports enthusiasts from the three leading institutes, to build stronger bonds amidst healthy competition.
An epitome of sportsman spirit, Sangram acts as a team building activity for the students of all the three institutes. Usually held in the second weekend of November, the 2015 edition will be hosted by IIM Kozhikode from November 13 to 15. More than 400 students would be participating in the event from the 3 IIMs combined.
A total of 14 different sports would be played ranging from the popular sports such as cricket and football to indigenous sports such kho-kho and carrom.
The event launch was held on 8th November at IIM Kozhikode’s auditorium. The evening was made memorable by a display of Kalaripayattu, the traditional martial arts form of Kerala. This was followed a glittering light and sound show that showcased the culture of Kerala and also included a segment on the sports that would be played during Sangram.
The winners’ trophy was also unveiled during the launch event. With hardly a couple of days left, IIM K is all geared to welcome the guests from IIM Bangalore and IIM Trichy. So far, IIM Bangalore has come out on top of every edition of Sangram.
With pride and bragging rights at stake, for current students as well as alumni, this year’s event promises to be more competitive and exciting that any of the preceding ones. Do drop by IIM Kozhikode if you are around the campus to get a feel of the atmosphere.
