A total of nine Indian shooters have made a cut for the London 2012 Olympics in eight shooting events, 6 men and 3 women. Sanjeev Rajput got a quota place in 50m rifle – 3 positions after a score of 1176 points in the world championships at the Changwon in this year the MQS (Minimum Qualification Score) was 1135.
Hariom Singh qualified for the Olympics in 2010 world championships at Munich in men’s 50m rifle prone event when he shot a score of 598 to better MQS 587.

Sportskeeda Perspective:
This Indian delegation looks awesome to pocket maximum possible medals for the nation in shooting, boxing and most likely in archery. Four boxers have capabilities to grab any of the three possible medals as they have improved a lot in last few years and have done a great job in commonwealth games, Asian games and world championships. In shooting contingent we have 2008 gold medalist Abhinav Bindra as well as world no. 2 Ronjan Sodhi. Also Sanjeev Rajput who has pocketed gold in 2011 world championship at Changwon and Gagan Narang who has 3 gold medals in qualified event at world championships. Vijay Kumar is yet to grab a gold at international level. So, in men’s team we can expect at-least 4 medal pocketing performances with a chances of another Olympic gold.
Out of 3 women shooters, Rahi Sarnobat has qualified after personal best bronze medal score, so medal hopes 50-50. Same with Annu Raj Singh and Shagun Chowdhary as they are yet to stand with no 1 position on podium in any international championships. So, medal hope blowing in the air, now its in their hand to shoot them with accuracy.
In swimming team, both the swimmers have done good job in Asian tournaments and have proved their mantle to grab a podium but not the center spot. Both have qualified with ‘B’ standard timings means medal hopes are less but we can expect for new national records. In archery team there are hopes of medal contention from the women’s re-curve team, only.
The case with athletics contingent is a bit different as medal hope does not exists. All athletes have qualified with ’B’ standard after making their personal best efforts, expect Gurmeet Singh. But lack to reach even qualification ‘A’ mark creates zero medal hopes, but good news is we can again expect new national records.
