Arun Jaitley allocated Rs.400 crore for the development of Indian sports, including upgradation of sports infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, a sports university in Manipur and training for athletes for the upcoming Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.

To encourage sports in India, the government has decided to set up a National Sports Academy, Arun Jaitley said in his budget speech. In a very positive move, the government has decided to setup a Centre for Disability Sports.

“Sports are an integral part of growing up and personality development. Unfortunately, in our country, sports have not been main-streamed to date. The government will set up national level sports academies for major games in different parts of the country to mainstream sports.” – Arun Jaitley

The sports academy will focus on developing 6 sport disciplines like shooting, archery, boxing, wrestling, weightlifting and track and field events.

Sports Authority of India (SAI) has been allocated Rs.405.10 crore, a significant hike from last year’s Rs.320.45 crore .The total budget for National Anti-Doping Association (NADA) has been increased from 8 crore to almost 12 crore, a great step to ensure our athletes are cleaner than the past (India is ranked second in the world for failed dope tests).
