IPL 2011: Royals upset with Jaipur Pitch

Shane Warne

Rajasthan Royal’s skipper Shane Warne and his team are unhappy with the kind of a pitch they got to play against Chennai Super Kings. RR lost the game by 63 runs at Jaipur which is known as Royals’ fortress. Rajasthan Royals have generally preferred to play in slightly slower tracks but they were forced to play on the fast and bouncy track on their home ground. Of course that did not go well with Shane Warne.

Shane Warne said “”In four years, we’ve never been told which pitch to play on or how to prepare it,” a visibly upset Warne said after the defeat. “We have no idea who instructed it but it wasn’t coming from us. Every other team has that opportunity to prepare and choose their home pitches, we don’t.”

Well, the pitch of Sawai Mansing Stadium, Jaipur came under the scanner after the match between RR and MI. Sachin had complained about the slowness of the wicket but Warne said that MI was completely outplayed by RR. Well I guess Warne is not wrong because in Cricket the home team has the right to get the kind of a wicket that a team wants. Though that did not happen against CSK as RR was forced to play on a harder track. Commentators were constantly saying that RR has always loved to play on the track where 130-150 runs are being scored by the team. But yesterday CSK scored 194 runs on that ground, 37 more than the previous highest score on this ground in IPL-4.

I guess there is something behind this story. CSK is the team owned by Mr, N.Sreenivasan, who is the secretary of BCCI. Now I am quite sure that Jaipur’s pitch curator must have been pressurized to prepare a wicket that can help CSK in winning the game. Along with RR, it was also a vital match for CSK. It was important for them to win the match to qualify for the play offs. The incidents like this one are really shameful. In India people use their power for wrong reasons. Though this is not out or proved but I am sure this is the reason why Jaipur pitch was faster than the usual track. Lalit Modi has also mentioned on the twitter that this matter should be investigated.
