The first 37 matches have notched an average TVR of 4.07, though a decent rating, a bit low when compared with the 5.44 TVR which the third edition had delivered last year during the same period. A drop of 25 per cent in ratings has made some advertisers anxious. In the first year, the average TVR was 5.39 for the same number of matches. Even when the event shifted to South Africa in 2009, the performance was better than this time as it scored a TVR of 4.58.
Even though no complaints have been heard from any of the advertisers, things happening around IPL4 doesn’t seem healthy. There could be several reasons for this flunk in TRP’s, but believ of some reasons, which could have made the downfall in the ratings, this season.
1. Overdose of the cricket matches for the viewers. IPL4 followed by World cup could have made the viewers easily exhausted.2. Fall in fan-loyalty, due to the absence of iconic players in their home teams. For example Saurav Ganguly not playing for KKR would have obviously disappointed most of KKR’s fans.3. Absence of stars players in IPL4 might also be a reason. Like Ganguly joining the band wagon very late.4. Also some other reasons like haphazard schedules or new team combination and especially too much cricket after the world cup ultimately resulting in loss of appetite for cricket.
