Is the Indian team ready for the world cup ?

It was a surprise to every Indian fan as to how this new – look Indian team hasmanaged to perform wonders at the 2013 Champions Trophy in England. Afteran exhausting IPL 6 which had its own share of controversies, questions were being raised as to how the Indian team would be able to rise up to the occasion in England. But the Indian teamwhich was missing the services of regulars such as Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan,Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag managed to win all of their group stagegames comprehensively.

No matter how much credit we give to the players for making the best use of theirchances we cannot take away any credit from the selectors who seem to have finally decided to look ahead of seasoned players and give young talent a chance at a time of this serious transition face which is going on in the Indian team. The selectors who had ignored the likes of Gambhir and Sehwagfor this year’s champions Trophy seem to have found the perfect openingcombination in Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan who have provided India with solid opening stands and have created a perfect platform for the Indian middle order consisting of DineshKarthik, M.S.Dhoni and Suresh Raina

While Shikhar Dhawan has proved his potential by scoring back to back centuries against South Africa and West Indies and Rohit Sharma too has pretty much cemented his place in the playing 11, but it is Dinesh Karthick who needs to play a big knock for himself after scoring back to back centuries in the warm up matches.

The bowlers have performed well too. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav have bowled well with the new ball in the absence of Zaheer Khan while Ravichandran Ashwin has been leading the spin attack well. But perhaps the best addition to all this is Sir Ravindra Jadeja who has won the much needed support of skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni with his energetic fielding, handy spin bowling and explosive batting down the order. While it is still to be seen whether India can manage to win the Champions trophy, there is no doubt in the minds of the Indian fans that this the perfect team which should go on and defend the World Cup in 2015.
