London - South Korean shooter Jongoh Jin held off a late charge from Italy’s Luca Tesconi to win the Olympic gold in the men’s 10 meter air pistol event here Saturday.
Jin, the world No.1, took the competition at the Royal Artillery Barracks with 688.2 points, with Tesconi 2.4 points back and Andrija Zlatic of Serbia winning bronze just 0.6 points adrift.
Jin worked up an early 4.3 point cushion that was enough to see him through despite some wayward late shooting and a steady charge of Tesconi.
The Italian needed to make up 1.3 points in the final round to snatch gold, but Jin snuffed out his chances ruthlessly with 10.8, the most pinpoint effort of the competition.
Defending champion Wei Pang had held the silver and the bronze position in the early rounds but faded away midway through.
