French Champions Lille are on the brink of signing Joe Cole from Liverpool on a loan deal. Cole has had a torrid time at the Merseyside club after joining them from Chelsea on a free transfer. He started just 8 Premier League games for Liverpool last season and after the signing of Charlie Adam, Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing this season he has moved even lower down the order and has not even featured in the substitutes list for Liverpool this season. The English Midfielder is desperate to revive his career and thinks Lille will be the place he can do so.
Cole was earlier linked with a loan deal to QPR but due to his high profile salary and the lure of European football at Lille, the switch couldn’t happen. Liverpool were looking to off-load the midfielder since the Transfer Window opened as they wanted to save on his extravagant 90,000 GBP a week wages. He traveled to France this Tuesday to hold talks about his move with the French Club. Cole had previously played for Chelsea and West Ham United and made 58 appearances for England.
