Liverpool transfer target #3: Sandro

Christmas is right around the corner, and we’re into player #3 in this series, with me thinking that Tottenham defensive midfielder Sandro would be the perfect fit for the recently vacant defensive midfielder role.

3. Sandro (Tottenham Hotspur)

This one would be to cover for the lost of Lucas Leiva to injury, and this would be a good move to make because it would be a like-for-like switch, with Sandro’s playing style very similar to that of our very own Lucas Leiva.

Sandro’s appearances have been that good that he has managed to earn himself international call ups for Brazil on 8 occasions, scoring one goal in the process. He has had a relatively slow start to this season, with him only appearing for Tottenham on 8 occasions, all of which have resulted from coming on from the bench or resulting in him being subbed off, hence not completing a full 90 minutes this season.

Strengths

Not only does he display the qualities of an archetypal defensive midfielder – this being good tackling and good reading of the game – but he is also good at starting off attacks with his passing, him being quick to bring the ball forward once the ball is won. His stamina is very high, with him able to cover every blade of grass over the course of 90 minutes.

The good thing about this move would be that he could come as a bargain, reason being that he is upset by the way Tottenham are fielding him, with him getting very little playing time this term. Sandro is reportedly unsettled and prepared to move this January transfer window.

Weaknesses

Lacks weaknesses in the defensive midfielder position, with his tackling and intercepting ability sound. Perhaps what he’s weak at is within his creative game, with him not the type of player whom unleashes 20 yard passes over the heads of everybody every once in a while.

Showed composure when he shut down AC Milan in the Champions League last season.
