We have been saying how mighty we Indians have become. How much the world values us.
It takes an Olympics to show us the real value that we have in this world.
London Olympics 2012. “Inspire a Generation”.
Inspire them to what?
To take funding from a company, because of whom thousands of people died, and still die? Due to whom lakhs suffer till date from physical aliments which can’t be cured, disabilities, mental retardation and a destruction of a whole town and nature? They are ready to fund the Games, the London Games OC ready to take their money, but when the issue of compensating those who suffered and continue suffering for the company’s incompetence comes up, they have empty coffers?
A legacy, maybe in showing that, even when a country has credible reasons in asking for a referral, it wont be accepted. But, if there is any referral against the same team, it will be readily accepted and the decision overturned in favour of the other.
A legacy maybe in which, you throw matches to have a favourable draw in the knock-out rounds.
The apathy of the situation is, neither do we Indians do anything, nor will we ever do. We wont protest strongly enough. We wont do anything.
We have become accustomed to being brought down. Maybe Vikas should have lost on “Technical grounds”, but what about Sumit Sangwan? He lost in a fight which was called “Daylight Robbery” by the ESPN commentators. The worse part? Our appeal was not even accepted.
There still is some, just a tiny bit of light in this darkness. Ajay Maken, by far, has been the best Sports Minister India ever had. He takes interest in all sports, he is there for the sportsperson. Hope that he takes good measures to stop the travesty that our athletes face.
Our athletes fail because of the inferior quality of exposure and facilities they get, their lack of opportunities to hone their talents, and if they conquer all of this, then the apathy and discrimination by the officials.
Hope still is there, we do win events. We still work hard. We will continue to do so. Sitting and whining wont do anything, let us continue to work hard.
Maybe, someday, in a level playing field, we Indians will medals aplenty. Someday, we will.
