At the start of the 2010/11 season many had predicted that the era of United dominance was over and they were no longer considered the favourites in the competitions they took part. The opening matches of the season saw the Red Devils give away leads from match winning positions which was because of their lack of spending in the transfer market, an aging squad which contained the likes of Gary Neville and Paul Scholes who were at the brink of retirement and their best player Wayne Rooney was a wanting a move away from Old Trafford. It looked like the things that could go wrong did go wrong for the Red Devils. Then it all changed Rooney was accepted a new five year contract which saw him handed a 200,000 pounds a week. Now they were back to being the true champion team they were.
New boy Javier Hernandez turned out to be the bargain of the season as he scored 20 goals in his first season at Old Trafford and replaced League top scorer Dimitar Berbatov from the first team. Nani had his break through season as he provided the most assist’s in the League. Still their were many problems that had to be solved the midfield was lacking that creativity which provided the killer pass, their away form was dismissal and the squad had very little depth but this is Manchester United who had that never say die menality , they don’t know when they are losing and when they are winning which makes them keep going on and on. Sir Alex Ferguson had that believe that his squad was good enough and his belief was proved right at the turn of the year they were back to their best winning games as they come not caring who their opponents were , Rooney hit his best form and was on fire the lack of creativity was over shadowed by the wingers who provided that final ball. As well as being top in the league United were progressing through the knock-out rounds of the UEFA Champions League beating the likes of Marsille , Chelsea and Schalke to progress to the final where they would meet Barcelona.
In the League however Chelsea was breathing on their necks and on the third last game of the season it was the Manchester United Vs Chelsea at Old Trafford The Red devils were just three points ahead of the Blues and this was going to be the title decider . It is on the big occasions that United shine and so they did from the opening minutes of the game till the refree blew the whistle the Red Devils were on fire and truly gave a champions performance and won 2-1 which saw needing only one point from the next two games to clinch their record 19th title and they achieved it against Blackburn. With the League in the bag United gave attention to their match against Barcelona at the biggest club game of the season . It was the final of the Champions League and the venue was Wembley, Barcelona were considered the favourites but everyone knew of United’s never say die attitude alas this was not going to be enough as The Catalan side outclassed their opponents and put in a stellar performance to clinch the Cup for the third time in five years.
After this match everyday put questions on United and thought that they were not the same team who won the European Cup in 1999 and 2008 but Sir Alex had other ideas he was now on a mission to over take Barcelona’s dominance as the best team in the world and he started his quest by bringing in new players in the form of Phil Jones, Ashley Young and David De Gea also Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverly came back from successful loans from Sunderland and Wigan respectively. The veteran trio of Van Der Sar, Neville and Scholes retired while Wes Brown and Jhon O’ Shea were sold and the face of the team changed as they looked younger and had the hunger of success in their eyes. Alex ferguson’s plans are working great uptil now with the new players looking to become legends, the side has won their first three league games and gave Arsenal a beating of a lifetime when they demolished them 8-2 . The next step is to make it to the final of the Champions League which is being held in MUnich this year and the Munich disaster should act as an inspiration for the players. I say United are still the team to beat with their professionlism and never say die attitude , they are going to dethrone Barcelona as the best team in the world because we are the Red Devils who have never heard the word of quitting and have that hunger of success in their blood and the team who are like a close knit family that everyone’s loves to emulate because they are so brilliant so Red Devils Believe that your team are going to get every trophy this year and every year because until who don’t believe it you can’t achieve it.
