My team against Bolton is:I would opt for the 4-2-3-1 formation, purely based on the fact that we are shipping in goals at the back, so by putting two holding midfield players, as opposed to just the one, should give Cahill, (a great Chelsea buy), and Luiz (a liability) added numbers to support them.
GK - Cech
DR – Ivanovic DC – Cahill DC – Luiz DL – Cole
MC – Lampard MC – Essien
AMR - Torres AMC – Sturridge AML – Mata
SC – DrogbaWith no doubt the full backs given licence to bomb forward, it will enable Mata and Torres to come inside.
The other odd one I guess is that I would put Torres on the right hand side of attack. This is purely based on the fact that I believe Torres (not that it needs saying) is totally lacking in confidence. I think having him on the right will enable him to get hold of the ball a lot more, giving him more time and space to pick his passes and gain his confidence. It clearly isn’t working for him down the middle so why not try it! I also think that Drogba being the target man up front, holding up the ball and winning headers, basically doing what he does best, will allow Torres and Mata, who are two of the quickest and best finishers at the club, even if Torres in particular hasn’t shown this of late, the opportunity to make the runs in behind the defence, when Drogba heads these balls on.and support Drogba up front. I would also put Sturridge in the centre of the attacking midfield. He himself has admitted he would like to play more centrally, and with all due respect playing a left footed player, who is scared to use his right foot on the right wing, is non-effectual. He has got into some great positions this season when he has wandered into the centre, and even managed to grab a few headed goals so why not play him in the centre!
I would also like to see the likes of Lukaku, Paizon, Bertrand and even Chalobah who has been looking really impressive in the reserves.
