Match Report : QPR 1 – Chelsea 0

QUEENS PARK ROBBERY

Chris Foy would do best to avoid parts of West London tonight as Chelsea fans furiously left Loftus Road after witnessing daylight robbery at the hands of the match officials. Decisions were made against Chelsea that ultimately led to a 1-0 away defeat to QPR, with Foy crucially giving QPR an early penalty followed by two Chelsea red cards to Bosingwa and Drogba respectively. Chelsea, appalled by the sense of repeated injustice, had every starting player booked by the end of the match bar Petr Cech.

Hell of a decision for Helguson

The match started slowly until in the 6th minute David Luiz failed to deal with a highball only to nudge Helgusson in attempt to clear the ball at the second bounce. Foy immediately pointed to the spot for one of the softest penalties you will see this season. Painfully for Chelsea, Luiz’s 2nd half penalty shout for a similar infringement went unpunished, much to the disgust of Andre Villas-Boas.

Before that however there was time for Chelsea to be reduced to 9 men, first Foy branded red for Jose Bosingwa who will definitely appeal his red card. The disciplinary committee should take notice that Bosingwa left the field with minimal fuss and accepted his decision, albeit an incorrect one. The Portuguese international was challenging ex-Blue Shawn Wright-Phillips for possession outside the box and as SWP fell to the ground, Foy immediately stopped play and assumed Bosingwa was the last man standing. Whether he was or wasn’t the decision was completely unfounded as the incident wasn’t even an infringement at all, let alone a red card! In fact, after both players went down, Phillips popped to his feet to play on!

For what?

Later in the half, Didier Drogba, who at 33 still has much to offer, saw red for a Fernando Torres vs. Stoke City tackle and this time Foy had little choice but to brandish red. Drogba did win the ball, but with two feet raised and studs showing, the Ivorian should have known better. Especially considering Drogba is only in the team as Torres was suspended for the exact same incident.

Deja red

As the match entered the second half, Chelsea should have been on the back foot. Down to nine men and with one goal down, they dominated the entire second half and should of equalised when Ivanovic, who was brilliant throughout, played a delightful cross with the outside of his boot for Anelka to head straight at Paddy Kenny. Lampard kicked the post in disgust.

The match was full of incident

QPR had their chances, but Chelsea will hold their heads high for outplaying their rivals with only 9 men. One wonders what the score line would have been if all 11 were on the pitch with a fair referee.

See you in the parkling lot

Following the match, AVB engaged in furious debate with Foy, claiming the match official was swayed by the intimidating home fans and refereed “unfairly”. AVB told the press, “It’s the third time that a referee has directly influenced the result for us and we’re not happy. In three games there have been blatant refereeing mistakes. I’m very disappointed with Chris’s performance. Chris and his team managed to play an emotional game and they conceded to the crowd and committed tremendous mistakes. It’s not fair.”

Foiled by Foy!

Neil Warnock’s main response was simple, “When you are beat like that and have two men sent off, it’s easy to blame the referee. When you’re young, you do that.”

Noisy neighbours? We’ve got them too.
