India, with 16 medals, including one gold, three silver medals, and 12 bronze medals in the BRICS Games 2024, is in the ninth rank in the tally. Russian Federation, with 358 medals is on top of the medal tally, including 177 gold medals.
Shifting our focus to the Indian results. Indian boxers had quite a mixed day. Minakshi, in the 45-48kg category, bagged a win over the Russian Federation’s Liya Patlay by 3-1. However, Anamika, in the 50 kg category, lost to the local lady Gelyusa Galieva by 0-5.
Jyoti, in the 52 kg category, secured a win against South Africa's Ntandoyenkosi Aneliswa by 1-0. Sakshi (57 kg) and Manisha (60 kg) also bagged comprehensive wins by 5-0 over Sitora and Krisandy, respectively. Prachi and Manju suffered losses in the 63 kg and 66 kg.
Lalita (70 kg) and Pooja Rani (75 kg) also suffered losses. Furthermore, in the 81+ kg category bout, Russian Federation boxer Kseniia Olifirenko stunned India’s Nupur by 3-2 in the BRICS Games.
In Canoe Sprint events, the Indians had a disappointing outing. In the Kayaking Men K2 500m event final, India finished at the last spot, clocking 1:52.704 seconds. On the other hand, in the Canoeing Men C2 500m event final, India couldn’t make it big, clocking 1:55.494 seconds.
In the Canoeing, Women’s C2 500 m event final, India ended in the seventh slot, clocking 2:20.627 seconds. Notably, a total of 142 athletes are taking part in the BRICS Games 2024 edition, participating across 12 different sports.
