BRICS Sports Games Medal Tally: Updated standings after June 20

BRICS Games 2024 is a multisport competition conducted annually by the bloc country members. Currently, Russia has the right to host the sports competition.

India is ranked in the ninth spot in the medal tally with one gold, three silver medals, and 12 bronze medals. Russian Federation with 358 medals is on top of the tally, including 177 gold medals. Belarus and China hold the second and third positions with 160 and 46 medals, respectively.

Moving to the details of the medal tally on June 20, Indian athletes failed to bag any medals as they continue to sit in the ninth slot with 16 medals, including one gold, three silver and 12 bronze medals.

Moving into the details of the day, Indian boxers had a mixed day. Minakshi, in the 45-48kg category, defeated the local lady Liya Patlay by a 3-1 margin. However, Anamika, in the 50 kg category, suffered a defeat to Russian Federation's Gelyusa Galieva by 0-5.

Jyoti, in the 52 kg category, bagged a win over South Africa's Ntandoyenkosi Aneliswa by 1-0. Sakshi (57 kg) and Manisha (60 kg) grabbed wins by 5-0 over Sitora and Krisandy. On the other hand, Prachi and Manju suffered defeats in the 63 kg and 66 kg categories, respectively.

Lalita (70 kg) and Pooja Rani (75 kg) were also on the receiving end as they suffered losses. In the 81+ kg category bout, Russian Federation boxer Kseniia Olifirenko defeated Nupur by 3-2.


Disappointing show in Canoe Sprint events in BRICS Games

In Canoe Sprint events, Indians put up a disappointing show. In the Kayaking Men K2 500m event final, India settled for the last spot with 1:52.704 seconds. On the other hand, in the Canoeing Men C2 500m event final, India failed to create an impact, clocking 1:55.494 seconds.

In the Canoeing. Women. C-2 500 m event final, India settled for the seventh slot with 2:20.627 seconds. There were no major talking points in fencing and chess. Though other sports were also part of the day, Indian athletes weren’t part of those particular events in the BRICS Games 2024.

Importantly, a total of 142 athletes are taking part in the BRICS Games 2024 edition, participating across 12 different sports.
