Indian para-athlete Ekta Bhyan clinched the gold medal in the women's F51 club throw competition at the World Para Athletic Championships held in Kobe, Japan, on May 21, 2024. Her throw of 20.12m marked the season's best.

Ekta, a seasoned representative of India in club and discus throw events across various international tournaments and championships, also holds the esteemed position of a Haryana Civil Services (HCS) officer, showcasing her multifaceted talents.

Her journey to the top podium spot in Kobe mirrors her previous successes, including a gold at the 2018 Asian Para Games held in Jakarta and a bronze medal at the 2023 Asian Para Games held in China.

Bhyan's latest triumph further bolsters India's burgeoning medal count at the World Para Athletic Championships, which now stands at an impressive five - including two gold, three silver, and two bronze medals.


Kashish Lakra secures silver medal at World Para Athletics Championships

India's Kashish Lakra secured the silver medal with a throw of 14.56 meters in the Women's Club Throw F51 event at the World Para Athletics Championships, marking it a double podium for India.

As the World Para Athletic Championships in Kobe continues until May 25, India's athletes are showcasing their mettle on the global stage.

Earlier, runner Deepthi Jeevanji made history by clinching the gold medal with a world record time of 55.07 seconds in the women's 400m T20 category race which was held on May 20.

India's rise in para-sports has been remarkable, exemplified by its record-breaking performance at the recently concluded Asian Para Games 2023, where the nation secured a remarkable tally of 111 medals. The 2020 Paralympic Games witnessed India's best finish yet, where they claimed 19 medals.

With commendable performances and unwavering dedication, India is gearing up to compete in the upcoming Paris 2024 Paralympics, scheduled to commence on August 28.
