London: Germany’s rowers dominated the men’s quadruple sculls final, on Friday, to take the Olympic gold medal.
The Germans started the fastest and slowly pulled away to complete the 2-km course by clear water in five minutes, 42.48 seconds.
Croatia, the fastest team in the world this year, won a close race for silver 2.5 seconds back.
World champions, Australia were edged into bronze, half a second behind the Croatians.
“I cannot express it in words,” German oarsman Karl Schulze said.
“Only after we crossed the finish line, I realised that we won the gold. My God, there is nothing better than this.”
