Pune Underwater Festival 2.0 : The full-proof way to have a Super Sunday

Underwater basketball or underwater obstacle course? Choose your pick as Pune gears up for Version 3 of the Underwater Festival on September 10 at the Divisional Sports Complex, Yerwada.

After an overwhelming response from Pune Underwater Festival 2016 and the very recent Mumbai Underwater Festival 2017, Finkick Adventures is all set to make Pune thrillsome with a host perfect for the event - Nikhil Chinapa. Apart from being an accomplished VJ and DJ, Nikhil is also an avid diver and an adventure enthusiast. In the lastest season, Punekars will indulge in a host of activities, such as hockey, poker, cycling obstacle course and breath hold diving circuits - all underwater!

The fest will be a day-long event with activities for all age groups. An activity pass entitles one to play some underwater hockey and experience a ‘Discover SCUBA Dive’ for non-divers. For certified divers, there will be an underwater obstacle course and some breath hold diving circuits, underwater biking, and even poker.

Along with the underwater activities, there will be some surface activities like slacklining where one can try their hands at. The event is also open to visitors, an invite to join the passionate community of travellers and scuba divers, an induction to the underwater world. A photo exhibition displaying the works of several underwater photographers and marine conservationists will also be displayed . In addition, travel experts will give information about scuba certifications and trips around the world. To top it all, there is also an opportunity to engage with underwater photographers, conservationists and instructors from around the world and plan your underwater adventures.

For surface intervals (like the divers like to call it), a host of land activities will be organised. Ever watched tight rope walkers perform tricks on TV? At the festival, one can experience a show of skills from the foremost slackliners and trickliners of India.

Apart from bringing together the adventure loving community in Pune, there are two causes that the organisers of the Underwater Festival are extremely passionate about - Diving with Disability and Marine Conservation. With a strong belief in scuba diving as a universal equalizer, Kshitij Mittal and Ankit Saboo feel that as water is a weightless medium and when one is underwater, it doesn’t matter if you are missing a limb as the smallest flick of a hand or leg lets you move forward. The festival, this time, will witness two wheelchair users diving and proving “everyone can dive!”.
