PWI failed to chase the low target, courtesy SRH’s bowlers

PWI continued their poor form of the IPL V as they did a mess chasing a low target in their 1st match of IPL VI against SRH in Hyderabad. After winning the toss PWI asked the opponent to bat on a wicket in favour of the bowlers. SRH made a cautious start before they lose Parthiv Patel on the total of 34 runs. Dinda’s perfect seam position helped PWI earn the opponent’s very 1st wicket. Then after, Sangakkara’s intelligent batting with the opener, Reddy accelerated the rpo to a better condition. But that didn’t last long, Rahul Sharma, the lanky leg-spinner bowled out Sanga with a top-class flipper. Then on the PWI bowlers dominated till the end of SRH innings. SRH’s started losing their wickets at regular intervals.

In between, Thisara Perera played a little cameo of 30 runs off just 18 deliveries, hitting a towering six over long-on. Dinda grabbed Perera’s wicket off a full-toss delivery in the death overs. Finally, at the end of SRH’s innings they put up the lowest total by far in this year’s IPL of 126 runs with 4 wickets remaining to bat. PWI bowlers really bowled well to restrict the target to 127 runs with Dinda picking up 2 wickets and Sharma, Bhuvneshwar , Samuels, Yuvi picking up 1 wicket each. Mathews , PWI captain was the only one not to earn any wicket in his 2 overs.

PWI started their chasing with the openers Manish and Uthappa. Both of them looked very uncomfortable infront of world No. 1 bowler Dale Steyn and Indian quick Ishant Sharma. In the 7th over of PWI’s innings , Perera was thwacked by Uthappa for a straight six and a edgy four but he failed to find a return luck of the very next ball as Robin got caught behind the stumps. Then, PWI lose few quick wickets in the form of Samuels, Yuvraj, Pandey adding only 14 runs to the total. Ross Taylor with Abhishek Nayar was building a good partnership and failed to prolong that as Amit Mishra of SRH gave his team the wicket at the crucial stage of the game in form of Nayar. In the next 2 overs with the loss of Taylor and Marsh’s wickets it seemed really tough for PWI to win the match and begin IPL VI on a winning note. Mathews was the only lone batsman left for PWI at the end on whom the dreams of PWI banked on. But the dreams were left shattered as Steyn with a speedy run-up uprooted the wickets of the tailenders Bhuvi and Rahul in consecutive deliveries and finally finished off PWI’s innings taking the wicket of Dinda which gave no chance for Angelo to take few chances.

PWI lost the by 22 runs without even playing the 20 overs quota. Amit Mishra was selected for the ‘Player of the Match’ trophy. SRH looked a different team with the ball having Steyn, Ishant, Mishra and lots of all-rounders in the team. They need to work on their batting to put a mark in IPL VI. On the other hand, PWI still looked very much down on confidence and lacked proper team plans. It’s just the start, long to way to go for both the team. Hope , one among these two teams becomes best among the rest in IPL VI.
