When it comes to creating interactive doodles to commemorate special occasions, Google has always been uniquely innovative. So, at the onset of the biggest event in the world of sports, it was expected that the multinational tech company would surely have something special up its sleeve.

For Rio 2016, the tech giants have gone all the way in showing their enthusiasm for the upcoming Olympics. This may also be seen as an effort to spread an awareness for different sports across a wide percentage of the urban population with a little bit of fun and games incorporated into it.

This time, Google presents the ‘Fruit Games’- your very own tournament that's easily available for download and is completely compatible with Android. The games feature fruits competing against one another in a tournament quite similar to that of the Olympics. The trailer, that's a part of the doodle, offers a tiny glimpse as to just how fun this game can be.

So we have Grapes playing Hockey and a little Strawberry battling it out to reach the finish line to avoid being crushed by a giant rolling Watermelon. There are Berries participating in Diving and Cycling and many such little titbits of amusements. The array is so vast that it is enough to keep one occupied for the entirety of the duration of the Games.

Coming back to the Olympics, Google has successfully developed a complete and comprehensive widget that promises to be a one-stop information centre for everything related to the Games. Starting with pop-up cards, the app on your phone as well as on your desktop will provide a day to day schedule complete with the names of the participants in action for any particular day.

Apart from this, the tech giants provide us with the times of each of the rounds in every category in your local time depending on where you are accessing the information from. The search engine also provides streaming information and links along with telecast timings in more than 30 countries across the world.

A quick look at the game

So, if one ever feels down about not experiencing the games firsthand, Google sure seems to have you covered. You can try your hand at Coconuts on a BMX bike, fruits playing Water Polo, Pineapples knocking serves out of the tennis court and a lot more. The Fruit Games are “apPEELing” to say the least. And once you get better, you get the fruity taste of success irrespective of whether your team wins or loses.
