Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 6 (IANS): Satyendra Singh of Services shot his way to a golden double at the 35th National Games when he combined with Chain Singh and Surendra Rathod to win the 50 metre Rifle 3 Positions men's team event here Friday.
The trio defeated Swapnil Kusale of Maharashtra in a nail-biting final round shoot-off in the individual version at the Central Polytechnic Campus Shooting Range at Vattiyoorkavu. Chain also won the second gold of the Games, having won the men's 10m Air Pistol individual event earlier this week.
The Services team shot a final round score of 3,492 to win the gold while Haryana, represented by veteran Sanjeev Rajput, Deepak Kumar and Mahesh Kumar, shot 3,431 to bag silver. Uttar Pradesh won bronze.
In the men's 50m Rifle 3 Positions individual event, both Satyendra and Swapnil finished the final round with identical scores of 445.8 before Satyendra edged ahead in the shoot-off. Chain bagged the bronze with a score of 434.9.
Services continue to lead the medals tally in shooting with an impressive haul of 13 gold, four silver and six bronze medals while Maharashtra lie a distant second with six gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
