It is always reckoned that T20 cricket is a batsman’s game. In spite of gentlemen’s game, crowds come to enjoy the game in other fashion as batsmen hit the ball out of the park. In T20 game, bowler can survive only when one has to have the pace of Dale Steyn or some has unique action like Lasith Malinga and has mysterious bowling of Sunil Narain to not only be economical but also pick up wickets. In the limelight of big hitters, there are few bowlers who have done well for their sides without getting any glamour or media glare.Siddharth Trivedi is one of them.
Siddharth Trivedi,a right arm medium pacer fron Gujarat made his first class debut in 2002-2003 season. He came into light when he took 9 wickets in 7 games in the ICC u-19 World Cup in 2002. He was then noticed by selectors and won Border-Gavaskar scholarship to train in Australia. He has played Ranji trophy for Gujarat and Saurashtra and has played Duleep Trophy for West zone and has taken more than 250 first -class wickets in 78 matches. In 2008, due to his consistent performance in domestic circuit gave him a slot at the inaugural edition of IPL . He led a disciplined performance and picked 13 wickets in 15 games and gained a lot of credits and praise from his team mates and his captain Shane Warne. But after all his disciplined performances under pressure ,he could not get any chance of garnering lucrative contracts. He did not figure in auction in next edition neither his impressive domestic season could attract the national selectors. But these all things did not deter him from playing the game as he played in next edition and picked 6 wickets in just 7 games with an economic figure of 7.6.
Trivedi is not very quick ,not a good swinger of ball but is outstanding and his experience enables him to read the situation. It is always important to have wicket taking options after your new ball pair and he provides that. He surely doesn’t have pace like Dale Steyn but he is quite sufficient to produce a decent pace and bounce with his flexible arm action. He mix up his deliveries and restrict the batsman to score in any format. He is fairly accurate and his current bowling performance in IPL 6 makes him some extraordinary type. The economy rate of 5.12 in play off matches and economy rate of 6.85 along with 12 wickets in 17 games in IPL 6 is something that some of established international stars can’t boast of. He has proved himself as one of the best promising bowler of Rajasthan Royal as he is on the list of leading wicket taker for Rajasthan Royal.
For all the opportunities that the IPL provides him,if he doesn’t come in auction pool next year he can’t be blamed. Because he can be in a position where he will have a good chance of making a pretty good package that can provide his financial security once he hangs up his boots. As he has always been denied by national selectors but it must be said that it is always a pleasure to see his performances count for his sides.
