The 13th edition of South Asian Games kicked off today in Nepal and thesouth Asian giants, India have got off to a sound start in Kho Kho and Volleyball. Besides, the badminton event also began today and the Pakistani contingent dominated the proceedings in that sport.
So, without further ado, let us have a look at the results of SAG 2019's Day 1 -
Kho-Kho
Defending champions India kicked off their campaign with a huge win against Sri Lanka. They defeated the islanders 32-4 in the women's match while the men's team defeated the Lankan team by the scoreline of 21-8.
Hosts Nepal edged Bangladesh by two points in both the matches. The women's team defeated Bangladesh by 11-9 while Nepal men's team overcame the challenge from their rivals with the score of 21-19.
Badminton
The women's team of Pakistan decimated the team from Maldives in the first round while Pakistan's male team blanked Bangladesh. Both the wins were registered with the margins of 3-0.
Hosts Nepal blanked Bhutan in the male team event before the hosts' women's team decimated Bangladesh 3-0. Surprisingly, all the matches produced lopsided results.
Volleyball
The two semifinal matches of men's Volleyball event took place earlier in the day. Sri Lanka surrendered to India after winning a set in the first semi-final while Pakistan defeated Bangladesh 3-0 in straight sets.
With these wins, India and Pakistan have booked their respective spots in the final. On the other side, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will now lock horns for the bronze medal. In the women's division, the Indian side will meet the home team in the final match of Volleyball event.
