Hello friends! Welcome to the third edition of SportsKeeda’s weekly quiz.
As always, we will first take a look at the answers to last week’s questions.
Ans 1) The photo of course is of Jesse Owens, the legendary American who won 4 golds (100m, 200m, 4x100m relay, long jump) at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The photo shows Owens racing against a horse. After a disagreement, the United States athletics officials withdrew his amateur status, thus ending his career. Running against racehorses was one of the many ways in which he tried to make a living. He once commented, “People say that it was degrading for an Olympic champion to run against a horse, but what was I supposed to do? I had four gold medals, but you can’t eat four gold medals.”
Ans 2) There were a lot of pointers in the question. Animal, French, tennis great can only point to Rene Lacoste. A seven time Grand Slam winner, he was nicknamed “the Crocodile” by fans for his tenacity on court. He also co-founded the eponymous high-end apparel company – Lacoste, easily recognizable by its green crocodile logo.
Ans 3) Dilip Doshi
Ans 4) The three photos are of (from L to R): Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia, Florida Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez and of course Fernando Torres. The connect – all of them are nicknamed “El Nino“.
Ans 5) Norman Pritchard, still credited as the first Indian Olympic medalist. He changed his name to Norman Trevor when he moved to Hollywood.

SportsKeeda Weekly Quiz 3
Q1) This man’s epitaph reads, “A gentle man and a gentleman“. Ironically, he was one of the most feared boxers of his time and was nicknamed “The Manassa Mauler“. A former world heavyweight champion, he was known for his aggressive style and exceptional punching power. After losing a bout in 1926 against Irish-American boxer Gene Tunney, he explained the defeat to his actress wife saying, “Honey, I forgot to duck!” – a phrase made famous several decades later by the former US President Ronald Reagan. Identify.
Q2) In the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, X won the women’s 400m hurdles gold, thereby becoming the first female African Olympic champion. The King of her country telephoned X to congratulate and declared that all girls born on the day of her victory be named after her. In 2007, she was named the Minister of Sports in her home nation, and she is currently also a member of the International Olympic Committee. Identify X.
Q3) The Association of Tennis Professionals or the ATP was formed in 1972, and they started publishing their annual rankings the following year. X was first player to be ranked number 1 in the world by the ATP (in 1973). X was known for his tantrums and his good looks, and was the first professional sports figure to sign an endorsement contract with Nike in 1972. According to the British media, he is best remembered as one of the best players to have never won a Wimbledon singles title. Identify X.
Q4) The only visual of the week, and this one is for all the football fans out there. The picture below shows 7 football clubs (3 German, 2 Dutch, 1 Scottish and 1 Japanese) that share something in common. The addition of a famous English club would make this list exhaustive. Find the connect, and also the missing club.
Q5) A relatively easy one to round off this week’s quiz.During a 15-over charity tournament in Jamaica in 2009, X told Y to watch out since he was going to give him one but Y didn’t really believe it. X, taking a long run up and bowling at a respectable pace, had given Y a traditional West Indian welcome with his first ball — a rising bouncer that brought the crowd to their feet. X cites Pakistan fast bowler Waqar Younis as his childhood hero, and Matthew Hayden as his favorite contemporary cricketer. And the 23-year-old brought the crowd to their feet when he castled Y’s stumps, signalling the direction of the pavilion to his friend for good measure. “I was pretty good as a kid and my cricket coach said I should concentrate on bowling because I was pretty quick running in” added X.Identify X and Y. (Hint: Y is a professional cricketer, X is not)
