Gone are the days when women were virtually absent in competitive sports in India. Today's Indian women are not only competing at highest levels of the sport, but are ranked amongst the best in the world.
We have seen the likes of Mary Kom, Saina Nehwal, Sania Mirza, Ritu Rani, Heena Sidhu and many others perform consistently and bring laurels to the nation over the past few years. They are an inspiration to several athletes who look to emulate them in the future.
