Sunderland thrash Chelsea 3-0

Chelsea suffered their first home defeat since March when they lost to Sunderland 3-0. Chelsea were left to ponder in what was a scintillating display of football from the unfancied Sunderland team. The visitors stunned the home side on the stroke of half-time when Onuoha dribbled his way through the home defence to score. Asamoah Gyan scored the second goal in the 52nd minute to give Sunderland a commanding lead in front of a shell-shocked home fans. Chelsea went into the match in the hope of stretching their lead to five points but they were up against a spirited Sunderland side. In an eventful week where United almost lost to Aston Villa, Manchester City drew, Liverpool lost and Arsenal won narrowly, Chelsea could have been the biggest gainers had the won the game.

Danny Welbeck completed the rout in the 87th minute when he latched on a poor pass from Ashely Cole to give Sunderland a 3-0 victory. Even the excellence of Petr Cech was insufficient to save Chelsea the ignominy of losing for the first time since March.

Arsenal scored a 2-1 victory against Everton. Bacary Sagna scored in the 35th minute to give Arsenal the breakthrough and Cesc Fabregas scored early in the second half to give Arsenal a comfortable margin. Tim Cahill scored in the 89th minute to lift Everton’s chances of a fightback but Arsenal hung on for a well deserved victory. Arsenal now trail Chelsea by two points and lead Manchester United by one point.
