What's the story?
Bengaluru has become one of the finest breeding grounds for sportspersons in India and has contributed to the sporting world of the country in a big way. The likes of Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble come to mind and its no surprise that since then, the city has given us plenty of superstars across various sports.
The Sports Writers' Association of Bangalore (SWAB) awards were held in the Karnataka capital on Saturday and honoured outstanding athletes in their respective fields. Among the awardees were India Football captain and Bengaluru FC striker Sunil Chhetri and India's highest ranked women's golfer, Aditi Ashok.
In case you didn't know...
Chhetri has contributed greatly to Indian football with his goals for country and his club, while Aditi Ashok has been a regular in the world of golfing, even representing India at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
The heart of the matter
The star studded event was attended by some of Indian sports' top performers including former India spinner Anil Kumble and Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra. Apart from Chhetri and Ashok, other awards were also given out including the "Team of the Year" award, which went to ISL side Bengaluru FC and the "Lifetime Achievement Award", which went to former India Hockey captain MP Ganesh.
Anil Kumble himself too managed to win a trophy in the form of "Coach of the Year" for his exceptional work in helping the Indian cricket team achieve dominance in the sport this year.
What's next?
Chhetri will continue to play for Bengaluru FC as the ISL season continues and Aditi Ashok will hope that she can keep up her good work on the golf course, both of them hoping to win even more accolades in their respective fields.

Indian sports continues to play a major role in shaping the upcoming generations and it is pleasing to see that the efforts of talented sportspersons have been recognised by the Bengaluru authorities.
